Must Watch: Brady Tkachuk trades heavy blows with Tom Wilson in spirited fight

Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk and Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson set off fireworks on Monday night. Late in the first period of the Capitals-Senators tilt, the two pugilists got the crowd roaring as they traded massive blows.

Here’s a look at the fisticuffs:

The heavyweight tilt ended with Tkachuk knocking Wilson to the ice following a series of haymakers. The battle was likely a rematch from an earlier encounter between Tom Wilson and Brady Tkachuk back on January 16.

Once the two combatants hit the ice, the officials stepped in to officially break up the tussle. Based on the events, Tkachuk got a clear decision in his favor as Wilson, despite getting his share of right-handers in, could not defeat the Senators captain.

The Capitals took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room after the first 20 minutes and will be looking to take the two points on Monday night.

Brady Tkachuk gets power play goal in losing effort

Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators dropped a tough 5-4 loss in the shootout on Monday night. The Sens rallied from a 3-0 deficit after Tom Wilson scored a power-play goal early in the second period. Then, the Senators stormed back on the heels of two goals from Shane Pinto to tie the game midway through the third.

However, Martin Fehervary’s third of the season gave the Capitals a 4-3 lead at the 12:43 mark. The Senators pressured, eventually getting the equalizer at the 18:52 mark. Brady Tkachuk’s 23rd of the season forced overtime. Since the extra frame solved nothing, the two clubs headed to the shootout. In the shootout, Dylan Strome got the only marker to give the Capitals the extra point on the night.

The win snapped the Capitals’ three-game losing skid. Nevertheless, the Caps are 5-3-2 in their last 10, cooling off somewhat after racking up back-to-back blowout wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers. As for the Senators, the loss put the team back into the red. The Sens are now 4-5-1 in their last 10, dropping them in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

While the Senators got a point out of the loss against the Capitals, they are still one point off a playoff spot. They trail the Detroit Red Wings by a point and the Columbus Blue Jackets by three. The Senators will face the Chicago Blackhawks next Wednesday night at the United Center, while the Capitals will face off against their division rivals, the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in what could be one of the evening’s most entertaining matchups.
