Who Passed Away This Week | Late June/Early July 2025 Celebrity Deaths and More

In a shocking week for the entertainment world, we mourn the loss of several beloved figures, leaving fans and communities reeling. Among the notable deaths reported at the end of June and early July 2025, actor Rick Hurst, famous for his role as Cletus Hogg in “The Dukes of Hazzard,” passed away at 79 in Los Angeles on June 26. Just hours later, R&B legend Walter Scott, co-founder of The Whispers, succumbed to cancer at 81, leaving behind a legacy that influenced generations.

The music world also lost composer Lalo Schifrin, best known for the iconic “Mission: Impossible” theme, who died of pneumonia complications at 93. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Rebekah Del Rio, recognized for her haunting vocals in “Mulholland Drive,” died at 57, bringing her remarkable career to a tragic end.

Among the younger talents, social media personality Tanner Martin, just 30, lost his battle with colon cancer on June 25, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans who followed his journey online. Baseball great Dave Parker, known as “the Cobra,” passed away on June 28 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, just weeks before his induction into the Hall of Fame.

Comic book visionary Jim Shooter also left us on June 30, succumbing to esophageal cancer at 73, while former U.S. Representative Carolyn McCarthy, a fierce advocate for gun control, died at 81. The week ended with the passing of televangelist Jimmy Swaggart at 90 and hockey legend Alex Delvecchio at 93 on July 1, followed by actor Michael Madsen at 67 on July 3.
