Nearly two decades after the original stunned audiences worldwide, Apocalypto 2 (2026) is officially on its way — and the first trailer promises a gripping, visceral continuation of the Mayan survival epic.
Rudy Youngblood reprises his iconic role as Jaguar Paw, who now finds himself facing a deadlier threat than ever before. Directed once again by Mel Gibson, the sequel picks up years after the events of the original, with Jaguar Paw now a seasoned leader and protector of his people. But a mysterious new tribe — armed with foreign weapons and a thirst for conquest — threatens to annihilate everything he holds dear.
The trailer opens in silence, before a sudden eruption of jungle warfare. Spears clash, arrows fly, and the camera plunges the audience deep into the brutal chaos of ancient Mesoamerica. Youngblood’s Jaguar Paw, older and hardened, whispers: “The gods are no longer watching. It’s up to us now.”
Visually stunning and historically raw, Apocalypto 2 explores themes of legacy, colonialism, and the limits of human endurance — with a haunting new score by James Newton Howard.
The film was shot entirely in the Yucatán Peninsula, using native Mayan language once again for authenticity. The cast also includes Tenoch Huerta, Yalitza Aparicio, and rising newcomer Iktan Xul.
Apocalypto 2 will debut in theaters worldwide on March 6, 2026, and is already being praised for its powerful visuals and faithful continuation of one of cinema’s most unique survival stories.
