DONNIE Yen has revealed more about his character in the new action flick xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

The 53-year-old actor, who has a background in martial arts and action choreography, is seen in a clip exclusive to The Sun Online putting his s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s to the test while on set.

Donnie Yen joins the universe as Xiang

In the new flick, Donnie takes on the role of Xiang, someone he refers to as “just one, cool, Chinese man”, and faces off against Vin Diesel’s Xander Cage.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage sees Vin Diesel’s lead character starting the film presumed dead after a mission goes wrong, but soon comes out of hiding to recover a mysterious weapon known only as Pandora’s Box.

In the clip, Xiang can be seen throwing Xander an unpinned hand grenade – proving they don’t exactly start off on the best of terms.

However, Vin Diesel revealed: “There is a huge affinity between Xiang and Xander Cage – both thrillseekers in their own right. Both rebels in their own right.”

Donnie does his own stunts in the movie

On his character, Donnie said: “Xiang is trained to be the new XXX, but at the same time, Xiang is Xiang. It just going to take a couple of headbutts before they become buddies.”

Hong Kong 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 Donnie, who is a champion in the martial art wushu, is seen performing his own stunts in the behind the scenes clips – jumping off a bridge onto a van, being thrown over a table in a fight sequence and riding on top of water on a motorbike.

He has worked in Hollywood films for over thirty years – but is probably most recognised as Chirrut Îmwe from smash hit Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Donnie stars alongside Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and Orange is the New Black’s Ruby Rose – and the new flick promises to go off with a bang.

The cast attended the European premiere of the film in London on Tuesday, January 11 – with Vin Diesel making an impression by arriving via helicopter.

Katie Price also left an impression – by showing off the results of her bum lift in tight leather trousers as she stomped the red carpet.
