The tapes are back—and so is the demon. Horror fans were given a chilling surprise today as New Line Cinema dropped the first official trailer for Sinister 3, the long-awaited next chapter in the terrifying franchise. Starring Jenna Ortega, the film is set for release on October 17, 2025, just in time for Halloween.

Directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation), Sinister 3 picks up nearly a decade after the events of the second film, with a new protagonist and a hauntingly familiar threat. Jenna Ortega plays Luna Carter, a psychology student researching 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood trauma through urban legends—only to uncover real footage tied to the Bughuul murders.
The trailer opens with Luna discovering an old Super 8 projector in the attic of her recently deceased uncle’s home. As she plays the first reel—titled “Fire in the Hallway”—a sinister sequence of events begins that pulls her and her younger brother into the orbit of the ancient demon Bughuul once more.
“You don’t watch the tapes… the tapes watch you,” Ortega whispers in a tense moment from the trailer.
The new film returns to the series’ signature found-footage terror with grisly homemade films, each more disturbing than the last—this time with victims recorded live as the chaos unfolds.
Sinister 3 is produced by Blumhouse Productions and New Line Cinema, with a screenplay by Scott Derrickson (who directed the first film) and C. Robert Cargill. Horror legend Ethan Hawke is also rumored to appear in flashback form as Ellison Oswalt.
