She is testifying against the so-called “grandpa robbers” accused of robbing her at gunpoint in 2016.
It is the first time she has faced the alleged assailants since that night, when she begged for her life as masked men bound her with zip ties and stole over $6 million in jewelry.
The suspects are mostly in their 60s and 70s, leading to their nickname in the French media.
Her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥hood friend and then-stylist, Simone Harouche, testified this morning that she overheard Kardashian pleading with the robbers: “‘I have babies and I need to live.’ That is what she kept on saying, ‘Take everything. I need to live.'”
What To Know
Ten men are on trial, with one suspect deceased and another excused due to illness. Two defendants have admitted being at the scene. The others deny involvement, and one claims he didn’t know who Kardashian was.
Investigators maintain the group meticulously planned the heist using Kardashian’s social media posts, which revealed her location, jewelry, and travel schedule.
At the time of the robbery, Kardashian was at the height of her influence.
What People Are Saying
Kim Kardashian told the court that she and Harouche considered jumping out of the window: “I remember calling my mum from the bushes to let her know what happened and then I think while we were waiting for my security to come Simone and I were trying to come up with a plan – if they come back should we just jump out the window?”
In court, lead judge David De Pas questioned whether Kardashian had made herself a target by sharing images of valuable jewelry. Simone Harouche responded, “Just because a woman wears jewelry, that doesn’t make her a target. That’s like saying that because a woman wears a short skirt that she deserves to be raped.”
Harouche told the court on Tuesday morning: “I was scared that she was raped or violated. I thought the worst.” She added that Kardashian was “screaming with terror in her voice.”
Harouche told the court the trauma “forever” changed her friend, whom she’s known since age 12.
“She now has a completely different lifestyle,” she said. “In terms of security, she can’t go alone, she doesn’t go alone to places anymore. To lose your sense of freedom … it’s horrible.”
In the aftermath of the robbery, Kardashian pulled back from the spotlight. She developed severe anxiety and later described symptoms of agoraphobia.
“I hated to go out,” she said in a 2021 interview. “I didn’t want anybody to know where I was … I just had such anxiety.”
What’s Next
Kardashian’s testimony is expected to be a key moment in the trial, which continues this week.
