Jeremie Frimpong officially signs with Liverpool: Contract details revealed

Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch wing-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, in a move that signals the club’s intent to reinforce the right flank amid uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future. After weeks of speculation and advanced talks, Frimpong has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Anfield.

According to reports from Sky Germany, Liverpool activated Frimpong’s release clause, believed to be just under £30 million — a figure well within the club’s transfer budget under new head coach Arne Slot.

Frimpong, 24, has made a name for himself as one of the most dynamic right-sided players in Europe over the past two seasons. His speed, creativity, and attacking instincts helped propel Bayer Leverkusen to domestic and continental success. Across 189 appearances for the German side, he recorded an impressive 29 goals and 44 assists — remarkable numbers for a defender.

Following the official announcement, Frimpong expressed his excitement in joining Liverpool: “Liverpool is a fantastic club with a rich history. It’s an honour to wear this shirt and play for a team with such passionate fans. I’m ready to give everything for this badge,” he said in his first interview as a Liverpool player.

The Dutch international had been on Liverpool’s radar for months, and manager Arne Slot — familiar with Frimpong’s playing style from the Eredivisie and Bundesliga — pushed strongly for his arrival. Frimpong’s decision was also influenced by the departure of Xabi Alonso from Leverkusen, opening the door for a fresh challenge.

Born in Amsterdam and raised in England, Frimpong began his career in Manchester City’s youth academy, where he spent nearly a decade before moving to Celtic in 2019. His rapid development since then has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after full-backs.

With the deal now confirmed, Liverpool fans will be eager to see how Frimpong fits into the system under Slot — whether as a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold or in a more advanced wing-back role. Either way, the Reds have secured one of the brightest talents on the market.
