Lewis Hamilton shares heartbreaking news ahead of Saudi Arabian GP, sparking fears he may withdraw from the race

Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton has delivered heartbreaking personal news just days before the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, revealing his beloved French bulldog, Roscoe, is gravely ill — a situation that might cause him to withdraw from the race.

In an emotional message posted to social media late Wednesday night, Hamilton opened up about the health scare affecting Roscoe, who has been diagnosed with pneumonia. The seven-time world champion, who is racing for Ferrari this season, didn’t hold back his emotions as he shared how deeply affected he is.

“This has been one of the hardest weeks I’ve had in a long time,” Hamilton wrote. “Roscoe is my best friend, my family, my everything. He’s been with me through the highs and lows, every win, every heartbreak, every country, every track — always by my side. Seeing him like this, struggling to breathe, weak and tired… it’s breaking my heart.”

Hamilton, who adopted Roscoe in 2013, often brings his companion to race weekends and shares regular updates of their time together. From paddock walks to private jets, Roscoe has become a fan-favorite in the F1 world.

“He’s been more than just a dog to me. He’s my grounding force. When the world gets overwhelming, it’s his calm presence that reminds me to breathe. I know some people might not get it — but those who’ve truly loved an animal will understand. I haven’t been able to sleep, to focus… it’s like a part of me is hurting constantly.”

Hamilton continued, explaining the current state of Roscoe’s treatment:

“He’s with one of the best vets right now, receiving integrated care — a combination of traditional medicine and holistic support. They’ve started him on high-dose Vitamin C IVs, strong antibiotics, and acupuncture. I’m doing everything I possibly can to save him. But it’s a waiting game, and I’m just praying he pulls through.”

The Ferrari driver admitted that Roscoe’s condition could affect his mindset heading into the race weekend:

“Right now, I don’t know if I’ll be in the right headspace to race. I’m here in Jeddah physically, but emotionally I’m somewhere else. Racing is my passion — but Roscoe is my soul. I’ll make a decision closer to the race depending on how he’s doing. My team understands, and I’m grateful for their support.”

Hamilton’s fans have flooded social media with messages of love and encouragement. Many have also praised his openness and emotional honesty.

Should Hamilton decide to step away from the race this weekend, it would be an understandable and deeply personal choice. As the motorsport world turns its attention to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton’s focus remains on the health and recovery of his loyal companion.
