Most would assume that a typical Mexican pressure fighter like Canelo would have very little in common with the more precise Swiss Army knife-type fighter like Naoya Inoue but this video demonstrates why great minds truly do think alike: both Canelo and Inoue routinely come up against opponents that dwarf them in size, both Canelo and Inoue love to counterpunch after adjusting to their opponents, they love using slick head movement to discourage an opponent’s offence, they both LEAP into their left hooks, they love throwing combinations that end with a shot to the body (typically a left hook), they love using the step back-uppercut counter and – despite their straight shots being effective – typically favour throwing wider hooks to break down an opponent. It’s no wonder why these two are – alongside Crawford and Usyk – perennially at the summit of the pound for pound list.
