Chris Pratt married Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter Katherine in 2019

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a strong bond with son-in-law Chris Pratt.

The two actors became family when Pratt married Schwarzenegger’s daughter Katherine in 2019.

Pratt, 45, told PEOPLE in May 2023 about his relationship with the Terminator star before a special screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, saying it “means the world” to have Schwarzenegger’s support.

“Just being his son-in-law and being part of his family, it obviously means a lot to have his support,” said Pratt.

“But then on another level, just being somebody who grew up loving his movies, the big action hero — I dreamed of being Commando and dreamed of being the soldier from Predator, and I loved Terminator,” he continued. “So for him to give me kudos for going out and being on the marquee is really kind of mind-blowing.”

Schwarzenegger had posted his support for Pratt in the film on X, saying “I saw #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 last night and WOW. @prattprattpratt, you crushed it. A non-stop, perfect mix of comedy and action. I loved it and I’m very, very proud of you.”

Aside from sharing similar career roles as action stars, the two have bonded over a few more relatable interests. Last March, the Super Mario Bros. Movie star spoke on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about how Schwarzenegger “kind of taught” him how to smoke cigars.

“I mean, there’s nothing manlier than Arnold Schwarzenegger smoking a cigar,” Pratt told Fallon. “And when you’re a part of, you know, bringing his granddaughter into the world, he comes and he brings you a cigar and he’s like, ‘Let’s go out and smoke these.’ ”

And the Kindergarten Cop star enjoys Pratt’s company too. During an episode of Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Schwarzenegger praised his son-in-law as “a fun guy to talk to.”

“I’m really happy that my daughter has found him. And that he has found her… they found each other,” he added. “Because they fit really well together and they just look wonderful together. They’re so in love with each other.”

On July 30, Pratt gave his father-in-law a special 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day shoutout on Instagram as Schwarzenegger turned 77. “Happy 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day Arnold! You’re one of a kind,” Pratt wrote.

“Looking forward to another year of sage advice, good cigars, chess whoopings and hand feeding homemade cookies to the many barn animals that live in your kitchen,” he wrote.
