The couple’s relationship began in 2020, and they officially announced their romance in 2021.

In the black and white picture, the father-to-be is seen embracing his girlfriend and expecting mother Piquet’s 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 bump. Sharing the heartwarming picture, the couple captioned, “Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way. - Met in 2016: Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet met each other in 2019, in Monaco for the first time. They were having dinner with Kelly’s brother Nelson Jr. She was 28, and Max was 19. Kelly told Vogue Netherlands earlier that ‘Something magical happened that night’.
- Started dating in 2020: Kelly was dating Daniil Kvyat from 2017 to 2019. They welcomed their daughter Penelope in July 2019. They later split. In 2020, Max and Kelly began seeing each other. Though they have a nine-year age gap, the couple had plenty in common. They both came from F1 families. Both Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet have a racing legacy. Verstappen’s father Jos drove in F1 in the 1990s and early 2000s. Piquet, on the other hand, is the daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet. Kelly Piquet, has a daughter, Penelope, from a relationship with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat who Verstappen replaced at Red Bull at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.
- Made it official on social media in 2021: On January 1, 2021, Max and Kelly dropped a photo together on Instagram. On January 1, Max posted a picture of him with Piquet on the beach and wrote, Happy New Year everyone! Let’s make 2021 a year to remember in many ways. Wishing you all success, love and happiness just as I found mine.” The same day, Kelly shared a picture and said, “Love is what makes the world go round. Happy new year and much love.”
- September 2021: On Max’s 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day, Kelly posted a picture with him and wrote, “Happy Birthday to the love of my life. I love everything about you, about us and I am beyond proud of you. I can’t wait for all that is to come.”
- May 2022: On Mother’s day, Max posted a picture of Kelly and his mother, Sophie Kumpen on Instagram. In another picture, he dropped his sister Victoria Verstappen’s picture and wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to these amazing mothers.”

The couple has been together ever since then and celebrated their wins and festivities together. Talking to German publication Blick in December 2023 Max said that only ‘time will tell’ when they would get married. When he was asked about his future plans with his girlfriend, including a potential walk down the aisle, he stated that at the moment he is ‘very, very happy with Kelly’, but personally, he does not have a timetable for when he will get on my knees in front of her.
