Leon Draisaitl shares behind-the-scenes story of Connor McDavid’s 1,000th point celebration with custom t-shirts (via Twitter/@ Edmonton Oilers and Instagram/@ mcdavid97)
Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl talked about how the team celebrated Connor McDavid’s 1,000-point milestone with custom shirts. During the Oilers’ 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators, McDavid became the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points, doing so in 659 games.
The t-shirt features McDavid’s picture in a checked shirt with a gold chain around the neck and goggles with an orange tint. The picture is positioned in front of the Oilers logo in light gray.

Draisaitl said he came up with the idea for the shirts.
“I was the guy to send out the picture, and then brad harrison, our equipment manager, takes it from there. he’s good with stuff like that,” Draisaitl said.

McDavid scored the milestone goal in the third period. He later assisted Darnell Nurse’s overtime goal to record point number 1,001. He finished the game with a goal, an assist, eight shots and three hits. McDavid has nine points in his last three games, bouncing back after a slow start to the season.
When asked about being part of McDavid’s milestone, Draisaitl stayed humble.
“You get just as excited for anyone that’s involved. You’re just excited for him. This is his accomplishment, not mine or anyone else’s. That’s him. And I think we’re all just really happy and proud of him,” Draisaitl said per Sk.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have worked together on nearly half of McDavid’s career points (44%). They have factored in on the same goal 446 times.
McDavid has assisted 192 of Draisaitl’s goals, ranking eighth in NHL history. Draisaitl has assisted 135 of McDavid’s goals. McDavid and Draisaitl are one of the most productive top-scoring pairs in NHL history.
Teammate Darnell Nurse’s comments on Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid, signed through 2025-26, has a career points-per-game rate of 1.52. Fourteen games into his 10th season, McDavid became the 99th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points and the fourth fastest to the milestone.
Darnell Nurse appreciated the milestone shirt and said it was well-made.
“I saw the concept, i didn’t think they would turn out this nice. nice fabric, too. i might wear it a lot,” Nurse said.

Reflecting on their time together, Nurse said it felt special to be part of the celebration. He said everyone was happy to honor Connor McDavid’s hard work and consistent effort on the ice.
