Bruno Fernandes Breaks Silence on “Erik ten Hag Sabotage Plot” Rumors Amid Post-Sacking Surge in Form

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has addressed the rumors surrounding Erik ten Hag’s departure, refuting claims that he or his teammates intentionally underperformed to push for the manager’s sacking. Since Ten Hag’s dismissal, Fernandes has been in stellar form, scoring four goals and providing two assists in his last four matches, including a decisive role in United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester.

Speaking on the speculation that he contributed to Ten Hag’s downfall, Fernandes expressed regret about his former coach’s exit but firmly denied any involvement in the supposed “sabotage plot.” “People will say we wanted him to be sacked,” Fernandes stated, “but that’s not true.” The midfielder went on to take some accountability, acknowledging that the team’s overall performance under Ten Hag could have been better, adding that he himself could have done more.

Fernandes’ return to form under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has been nothing short of remarkable. Van Nistelrooy praised the Portuguese star, saying, “He is back. He is producing goals and assists. That is the Bruno that is helping the team the most.” With 83 goals and 72 assists in 250 appearances for United, Fernandes remains a key figure, as his statistics demonstrate.

As new head coach Ruben Amorim prepares to take over, a central question is how Fernandes will fit into Amorim’s preferred formation, which doesn’t traditionally feature the number 10 role that Fernandes has thrived in. Amorim’s system, known for its flexibility with three central defenders, wingbacks, and two central midfielders, will require creative solutions if Fernandes is to continue his impact on the field.

The importance of Fernandes to United’s success is clear, as his standout performance against Leicester proved with impressive stats like the most passes in the final third, the most created chances, and the most crosses. Addressing fans and critics, Fernandes also sent an encouraging message to teammate Alejandro Garnacho after the match, saying, “Garnacho didn’t celebrate because he thinks he has lost the faith of some fans. I told him people will always moan, but a lot of people like you. I told him to celebrate.”

As Amorim begins his tenure, finding the optimal role for Fernandes will be essential to United’s aspirations. With such influential performances, it seems inevitable that Fernandes will be at the heart of the team’s plans moving forward.
