Tiger Woods’ former coach makes big claim about the 15x major champion’s career to clap back at fan questioning his golf advice

Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney, recently shared a simple formula to help lower a golfer’s handicap. When a fan questioned his advice, Haney made a bold claim, stating that this very approach contributed to Woods’ success during his career.

Haney is a seasoned golf instructor who has worked with several players, including Mark O’Meara. However, his most notable partnership was with Woods, whom he coached for six years, helping him secure 31 PGA Tour titles, including six major championships.

On Friday, October 18, Haney offered his advice on how to improve one’s handicap.

“You want to lower your handicap? Eliminate penalty shots, eliminate two chips and eliminate three putts, pretty simple formula,” he wrote on X.One of the fans asked Haney about Woods’ reaction to this advice. The veteran golf teacher made a big claim in response.

“Statistically the most prolific time in his career,” he wrote. “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but no one is entitled to their own facts.”

Haney’s comment has some weight given the success Woods had under his coaching. Woods remained World No. 1 for 257 consecutive weeks during this time. Besides, he won the PGA Tour Player of the Year four times and also topped the PGA Tour money list four times.

Tiger Woods also shot a scoring average of 67.79 in 2007 to tie for the lowest single-season average he had made in 2000. The duo finished their partnership with a 33.3% winning percentage on the PGA Tour. Besides, they also had a 26% win rate in 23 major appearances.

Is Tiger Woods playing at the ongoing Shriners Children’s Open?Tiger Woods is competing in the ongoing Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas. He last competed at the Open Championship, where he missed the weekend. He hasn’t made the cut at the oldest major since 2018.

Unlike last year, Woods played all four majors this year. However, his performance was nothing to boast about as he missed the cut in three of them. He made a record 24th straight cut at the Masters Tournament but couldn’t repeat it for the rest of the season.

Recently, the 48-year-old golfer underwent back surgery, and there is no clarity on his return. He will be hosting the Hero World Challenge in December and is expected to compete at the PNC Championship as well, though his availability will depend on his recovery.
