Phil Mickelson Unveils LIV Golf’s ‘Turkish John Wick’ for 2028 Amid Doubts Over His Own Olympic Future

Phil Mickelson, who was once 2nd on the OWGR list, currently sits at 220. This is one of the many reasons he did not represent the USA at the Olympics. One of the most arduous challenges for LIV Golf has been acquiring OWGR points and repeatedly being turned away from OWGR’s doorsteps. This makes Lefty’s chances of participating in the next Olympics even bleaker.

However, it looks like the HyFlyers GC Captain believes that one of his teammates might be representing the Stars and Stripes at the 2028 Olympics. But there’s a twist—the veteran pro chose a different sport for his fellow golfer: shooting.

Phil Mickelson calls Cameron Tringale ‘Turkish John Wick’

Phil Mickelson took to his official X account and shared a snippet from the HyFlyers enjoying a team moment at the Strategic Edge Gun Range in Tennessee. In the video, Cameron Tringale is seen very swiftly shooting a bullet across a 1000-yard distance and hitting exactly the right spot. Lefty was impressed and said, “He nailed it.”

Polls of the day

Do you think Phil Mickelson’s endorsement of LIV Golf’s Turkish John Wick will boost the league’s popularity?

Do you think Paige Spiranac deserves the title of Golf Queen?

What do you think about Charley Hull’s quick drag during the LPGA Tour?

Do you think Brandel Chamblee’s comments on LIV golfers are justified?

Mickelson even compared Tringale to Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish sports shooter who also became an overnight Internet sensation and is being dubbed ‘Turkish John Wick’ after winning the silver medal in Paris. The 51-year-old Turk earned the moniker not only for his exceptional performance but also for his calm demeanor and unconventional style with minimal equipment. He only had his regular glasses and earplugs, and he also had one hand in his pocket while shooting.

He even thinks that Tringale would do amazing if he took part in the 2028 Olympics as a sports shooter. Now, whether this was a genuine compliment or just an inside joke, who knows? But Mickelson, in the caption, wrote, “Turns out the HyFlyers have our own Yusuf (Turkish John Wick). Olympics 2028 LA? Probably.”

Getting through to the Olympics in a shooting event might be much more plausible for Cameron Tringale, especially given the precarious situation of LIV golfers’ world ranking due to the lack of OWGR points. Despite this behemoth challenge, a few LIV golfers were able to tee off at Le Golf National and carry out their national duties. Who were they, and how did they fare on the French greens?

Performance of the LIV Golfer at the 2024 Olympics

According to the OWGR criteria, only seven golfers from LIV Golf were allowed to represent their country at Le Golf National. Out of which, two of them bagged a top-10 finish. Jon Rahm, who played for Spain, was ranked fifth, four strokes behind Scottie Scheffler. In the ultimate round, he was grouped with Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood, and well, he was once in the lead as well. Joaquin Niemann, who represented Chile, was ranked 9th with a 12-under.

David Puig, representing Spain with Rahm, bagged a 40th finish, while Moto Pereira, representing Chile with Niemann, bagged a 1-over to finish in the 45th position. Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz were part of the Mexican team. While Ortiz finished in the top half of the entire field (26), the LIV Hong Kong winner was left with an even more disappointing finish at 35. Lastly, Adrian Meronk, from Poland, carded a 3-over to bag the 49th finish.

The performance given by the players of the breakaway league was pretty average, apart from the two players. Do you think it is right to solely judge based on the OWGR list? Or should the criteria be broadened this time? Let us know in the comments section below!
