After saving a new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 infant from assassins, carrot-crunching gunman Mr. Smith (Clive Owen) teams up with a prostitute named DQ (Monica Bellucci) to protect the 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 from further attacks.
With hit man Hertz (Paul Giamatti) hot on their trail, Smith and DQ uncover a dying senator’s plot to harvest bone marrow from babies just like the one in their arms.
Monica Bellucci dubbed her own voice for the movie’s Italian and French versions.
Question: What was the most appealing part of the film that made you want to take on this character?
Monica: Oh, everything. When I read the script I was in Europe and I said when I read the script it was crazy and how he is going to make this movie so I went to Los Angeles and met Michael Davis and then he told me about everything about he wanted to do and I said yes I want to do it.I had so much fun playing DQ because she’s totally free. She does dangerous, dark, dirty things but in a playful way. It’s like the movie, the movie is a comedy, it’s over the top, it’s like video games in some way. Of course, it’s violent but it’s also rock and roll, 𝓈ℯ𝓍y, dark, scary, with a lot of humor in it.
Shoot ‘Em Up is an over the top, wildly fun film about “A carrot-eating, lone wolf kind of guy named Smith (Clive Owen) [who] steps in to protect a pregnant woman from a gunman–and finds himself, with the aid of a lactating prostitute (Monica Bellucci), defending the new𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 from a sleazy contract 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er Mr. Hertz (Paul Giamatti) and his army of thugs.
Although the acting was nothing to cheer for when it came to the smoking hot Italian hooker that is Monica Bellucci, Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti were both likable, nailing their parts on the head.
Plus, if you like either of those actors it’s hard to turn this film down because they release any tension that you might have on the screen for you, that way you don’t even have to break a sweat. If you ever wanted to escape from a realistic action movie to just utter craziness than Shoot ‘Em Up is your perfect option. The best part is you can sit back, relax and not have to think about anything-just let your brain rest for this 85 min. bullet fest.
