Alexandra Daddario embarrassingly confesses she just learned the true meaning of ‘Netflix and chill’: ‘I thought it meant a cozy night in’

Alexandra Daddario has been using the phrase ‘Netflix and chill’ with friends when describing her quiet nights at home watching television.

And it wasn’t until she tweeted out to her followers on Friday for the actual meaning that she learned its true meaning.

Suffice to say: the Why Women Kill star, 33, was a little bit embarrassed to find out that it’s basically an internet slang term used as a euphemism for 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual activity.

Better late than never: Actress Alexandra Daddario just learned the true meaning of ‘Netflix and chill’ through Twitter

It all started when the actress tweeted out a message to her followers asking, ‘Ok I need to know what Netflix and chill means? Is it not literal? I thought it was literal, right?’

A slew of followers were happy to reply and debunk her assessment.

‘Oh no sweetie… it means have 𝓈ℯ𝓍,’ one person responded.

Another follower got a little more in-depth with their explanation.

Got it wrong: Daddario, 33, thought had been taking the phrase literal

‘Netflix and chill? means the same as “Do you want to come upstairs for a nightcap/coffee?” It’s code. Because most of us haven’t learned how to just say “I’d like to have 𝓈ℯ𝓍 with you. Do you want to have 𝓈ℯ𝓍 with me?”‘

Someone else got cute and replied,’We could rename it Hulu and f***.’

While another person shared, ‘It’s a bit like that scene from True Detective with the handcuffs,’ a reference to her character, Lisa, who seduced Woody Harrelson’s Marty in season one of the hit HBO crime drama.

Whoops! The actress was complete wrong when it came to her perception of the definition

Cute analogy: One person commented that Netflix and chill ‘is a bit like that scene from True Detective with the handcuffs’ a reference to her character, Lisa, who seduced Woody Harrelson’s Marty in season one of the hit HBO crime drama

After reading responses from fans and finding out that it basically means Netflix and 𝓈ℯ𝓍,’ Alexandra tweeted about her mistake.

‘I seriously thought Netflix and chill was literal, have been telling friends I spend most nights Netflix and chilling and inviting them to do it with me on a regular basis,’ she wrote.

‘I thought Netflix and chill just meant a cozy night in not feeling like going out.’

The phrase is believed to have started on Twitter as a non-𝓈ℯ𝓍ual phrase in 2009, but has since gained huge popularity as a 𝓈ℯ𝓍ual term.
