PGA Tour star pulled himself from ambulance to win $540K at Travelers Championship

Harry Hall’s week at the Travelers Championship appeared to be over after needing medical attention prior to the third round, but the Englishman was in no mood to quit

Harry Hall overcame being taken into an ambulance to finish last weekend’s Travelers Championship to take home a cool $540,000 in prize money.

Hall was in action as his fellow Englishman, Tommy Fleetwood, fell short of winning his maiden PGA Tour title in brutal fashion on Sunday. Fleetwood’s loss was Keegan Bradley’s gain, as the United States Ryder Cup captain secured his second victory at the Travelers in three years.

For Hall, it was another strong week, with the 27-year-old currently playing some of the best golf of his career, having moved up to 74th in the Official World Golf Ranking, his highest position to date.

His top-nine finish at TPC River Highlands earned him a $5400,000 payout, making the tournament one of the PGA Tour’s elevated Signature Events. His good week could have been a whole lot worse, though, after the Englishman required medical attention prior to his third round.

Having fallen ill on the Friday evening, Hall revealed that he needed an ambulance before heading back onto the golf course. “Friday night I was sick all night,” Hall said on Sunday. “Then I woke up, didn’t feel any better, so I went in and got checked out and they put me on two IV drips.

“Then after the round yesterday, I was gasping for breath all day on the golf course because it was pretty hot, too. I went in for another IV drip after the round. Then I woke up this [Sunday] morning great after like 12 hours of sleep.

Harry Hall finished in a tie for ninth

Hall seemed ready to pull out of the tournament, but with FedEx Cup points and prize money to play for, he opted to battle on. He commented: “I was in the locker room debating whether to withdraw or not because I didn’t feel great at all and ended up teeing off without a warm-up and without a swing.

“Just went straight to the first tee after getting two IVs in the ambulance and just battled my way around for one-under yesterday. I think that kept me in the tournament. I think I just did well to play, to be honest. What inspired me to play?

I did think it’s a Signature Event if I can just survive 18 holes and not give up any ground or have a chance to have a decent tournament, obviously, the points and the money. I think anyone else would turn up to work sick if they could make a quarter of a million, I think that’s what I was in. So I’m definitely turning up.”

Hall’s performance in Connecticut moved him into 47th in the FedEx Cup standings, with the Englishman gunning to qualify for the season-ending playoffs in August.
