WOLF MAN (2025) – First Trailer | Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson Unleash the Beast in New Universal Monster Reboot

Los Angeles, May 19, 2025 — Universal Pictures has just dropped the first official trailer for “Wolf Man” (2025), a chilling and visceral reimagining of the classic monster mythos. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a tormented journalist-turned-creature and Rebecca Ferguson as a mysterious behavioral scientist with her own dark secrets, the film marks a bold return to the studio’s monster universe.

Directed by Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man), the trailer wastes no time plunging viewers into dread. Set in a remote alpine village plagued by grisly attacks, it opens with Gyllenhaal’s character, Jack Langdon, whispering in confession: “I don’t remember what I did… only what I heard… the howling.”

The teaser builds through a storm of flickering lights, cryptic symbols, blood trails, and frantic whispers. Ferguson’s character, Dr. Elara Voss, is introduced as a specialist brought in to examine a series of murders — but what she discovers is far more ancient and personal than expected.

“This isn’t just folklore,” she murmurs in one chilling moment. “It’s evolution. Rage. Survival.”

In a mix of psychological thriller and body horror, the trailer showcases Gyllenhaal undergoing a nightmarish transformation, with practical effects enhanced by subtle CGI to bring the Wolf Man to terrifying life. Haunting score by Benjamin Wallfisch and stark cinematography by Greig Fraser lend a grounded, prestige feel to what might be Universal’s most serious take on its monster universe since 2020’s The Invisible Man.

The film explores themes of identity, inherited trauma, and primal fear. According to insiders, this version of Wolf Man will delve deeper into the creature’s origin, connecting it to ancient genetic curses and bloodlines that span centuries.

Universal confirmed that Wolf Man is part of a “new standalone monster saga” and not a shared universe reboot. “This is a character study disguised as a horror movie,” said director Leigh Whannell in a recent interview. “But don’t worry — it bites hard.”

Wolf Man will hit theaters worldwide on October 31, 2025, just in time for Halloween, and will be followed by a limited streaming release on Peacock two months later.

🐺 The beast is inside us all. The first trailer for WOLF MAN (2025) is now live on Universal’s official YouTube channel.
