Rory McIlroy’s fortune has skyrocketed by a staggering £35million over the past year, vaulting his net worth up to an eye-watering £260m. According to the latest Sunday Times Rich List, this impressive financial leap from the previous valuation of £225m cements his position among the UK’s elite.
The esteemed list, which is in its 37th year in 2025, presents the 350 wealthiest people across the UK. McIlroy shines amongst the richest people under 40, sitting at number 19 overall and topping the chart for Northern Ireland.
However, the 36-year-old’s financial assets may even be more impressive, as the list doesn’t factor in physical money and instead focuses on things like property, art, horses, and shares in public firms.
Just last month, McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam with a victory at the Masters, securing £3.15m in prize money, which has pushed his PGA Tour career earnings to an eye-watering £80m.
Despite these individual successes, the collective wealth of those on the Rich List has seen a dip, totalling £772.8billion — down 3% from the year before. The list, curated by business journalist Robert Watts, reflects a shifting economic landscape, with fewer billionaires and an overall decline in accumulated wealth.
Watts said: “The Sunday Times Rich List is changing. Our billionaire count is down and the combined wealth of those who feature in our research is falling.”
“We are also finding fewer of the world’s super rich are coming to live in the UK. Our research continues to find a wide variety of self-made entrepreneurs building fortunes not just from artificial intelligence, video games and new technologies, but also mundane, everyday items such as make-up, radiators and jogging bottoms.

“We know many of our readers find these people and their stories inspiring – especially the many who had tough starts or setbacks to their lives and careers.”
McIlroy’s sensational play-off win over Justin Rose at Augusta turned him into one of the elite few to achieve the career Grand Slam, and simultaneously netted him a fifth major title, placing him just one behind Sir Nick Faldo.
However, McIlroy now has a steep hill to climb if he wishes to secure back-to-back major wins following a round riddled with errors at the 107th US PGA Championship.
The Holywood-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 star had a rough start, carding a three-over-par 74, leaving him an intimidating ten shots behind front-runner Jhonattan Vegas.

Vegas rounded off his day with a spectacular finale, clocking up five birdies in the last six holes right before 8pm local time, thus becoming the first Venezuelan to top the leaderboard at a major.
He held a comfortable two-shot cushion above Australia’s Cam Davis and the North Carolinian Ryan Gerard, while Europe’s Ryder Cup skipper Luke Donald lagged just by one alongside the likes of Aaron Rai, Ryan Fox, Alex Smalley, and Stephan Jaeger.
England’s Matt Fitzpatrick and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre were just a stroke behind on three under, joining US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and Tyrrell Hatton.
McIlroy, who only managed to hit three fairways in regulation, was lucky not to land in the water with several off-target tee shots.
He chose not to speak to the media after the round, and instead headed straight for the practice range to prepare for the next day.
