Gervonta Davis Agrees To Rematch With Ryan Garcia Under One Condition

Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia was one of the biggest fights I remember.

The two stars faced off in April 2023, in a fight that became a huge commercial success, with over 1.2 million PPV buys and a reported $22.8 million in revenue.

Both men were undefeated coming into the fight, but it was ‘Tank’ who earned a comfortable victory, knocking Garcia down twice on his way to a seventh-round stoppage win.

Since that fight, Davis defeated Frank Martin to retain his new WBA lightweight title, while Garcia beat Oscar Duarte and then scored a sensational upset win against Devin Haney, but it was overturned shortly after when details of two failed doping tests were revealed.

Garcia was subsequently banned and is eligible to return to the ring in April 2025, with a potential rematch against Davis continually mentioned as an option upon his return.

Their original fight took place at a catchweight of 136 pounds, something Garcia said seriously hampered his efforts.

‘Tank’ has now outlined his terms for a rematch, telling ESNews it would have to happen under the condition of no catchweight and a rehydration clause, with Garcia previously suggesting it should take place at 143lbs.

“Yeah [it’s a huge fight]. But not at 143, why 143? Probably at 140, that’s the weight class after 135, that’s the weight class he fights at. Let’s do 140 and he can rehydrate up to 150, or 152 at the most, I weigh 135, bro.”

Since the interview, the couple has verbally agreed to repost it on social media.

Davis, meanwhile, is set to return against super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. in what will be the latter’s first step up to lightweight. An official announcement is expected in March next year after being pushed back from December and then January.
