Ruud van Nistelrooy has officially stepped down from his role as assistant coach at Manchester United following the appointment of Rúben Amorim as the club’s new head coach. The former United striker, who had stepped in as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s departure, delivered a heartfelt message to the fans as he bid farewell to Old Trafford.
Reflecting on his time with United, van Nistelrooy said, “Manchester United has always been a huge part of my life, and returning to help the team, even in this brief period, was an honor. I am grateful for the support from the fans, the players, and everyone at the club. I will forever cherish the memories made here, and I look forward to seeing United continue to succeed.”
Van Nistelrooy had taken on the role as Ten Hag’s assistant with optimism, guiding the team to three wins and a draw in his short stint as interim manager. Despite his willingness to continue working alongside Amorim and honor the remainder of his contract, it was decided that Amorim would bring in his own coaching team to build a fresh tactical direction.
United’s statement read, “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way he approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”
As Rúben Amorim prepares to reshape the squad with his preferred 3-4-3 formation, van Nistelrooy’s departure marks the end of another chapter in his journey with the club he once led to numerous victories. Fans worldwide bid farewell to the Dutch legend, honoring his impact both as a player and as a coach at United.
