Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard acknowledged that he has been “cheating” in one aspect of his game, particularly with his offensive play.

Nevertheless, he has become better in 5v5 situations this season compared to his rookie campaign last term. Bedard noted the importance of finding a balance between wanting to control the puck and recognizing that a significant portion of the game is played in the defensive zone.

He emphasized the need for responsibility in his overall game.

“I was cheating maybe a little too much last year for offense. It’s just a balance. I always want to have the puck. I always want to be in the offensive zone, but half the game’s played in your own end. Just being responsible,” Bedard said via Athletic’s Mark Lazerus on X.

Despite scoring only one goal this season, Connor Bedard has demonstrated significant improvement compared to his rookie year. He’s building chemistry with his linemates, and as the season progresses, this synergy is expected to pay off.

Many anticipate that Bedard will eventually showcase his offensive s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s and make a notable impact on the rebuilding Blackhawks.

Connor Bedard praises his linemate Teuvo Teravainen

On SportsCentre with Jay Onrait, Connor Bedard praised his linemate Teuvo Teravainen for his intelligence and positioning on the ice.

Bedard noted that Teravainen consistently finds himself in advantageous spots, making it easy for Bedard to pass him the puck. The Blackhawks star is excited about the opportunity to build chemistry with Teravainen as the season progresses as he said:

“He’s just such a smart hockey player. He’s kind of always in, always in good areas for me to give him the puck, or if I’m in an area, he’s always finding me. So it’s fun to play with a guy like that that takes the game at a high level.

“And obviously, his talent is a lead as well, so it’s been fun to kind of get to play with a bit so far and build that chemistry.”

Bedard and Teuvo Teravainen have been playing together on the Blackhawks’ top line alongside captain Nick Foligno. Teravainen leads the team with three goals, while Bedard is tied with defenseman Seth Jones for the most assists (six).

The Blackhawks (2-4-1), 27th in the league with five points, next face the Nashville Predators on Friday.
