Marc-Andre Fleury is entering his final NHL season. The 39-year-old goalie, who turns 40 in November, signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Wild in April 2024 and has announced that the 2024-2025 season will be his last, ending a remarkable 21-year career.
Despite his legendary career, Fleury doesn’t want any special treatment in his final season. Speaking to the media on Thursday at TRIA Rink after the Wild’s first training camp workouts, he said (per Twin Cities Pioneer Press):
“I don’t want any special treatment. I just want to go, look around, bring back some memories from my time here, but definitely not looking forward to any special treatment. Don’t need that. We’re good.”
Fleury has won three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Over the years, he has played for the Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks and the Wild. He is one of the most decorated goaltenders in the NHL and a future Hall of Famer.
Fleury’s accomplishments go beyond his Cup wins. He has played in 169 playoff games. He has played seven playoff games with Minnesota, all in the first round. Fleury appeared in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 playoffs for the Wild but couldn’t lead them past the first round.
Despite his long career, Marc-Andre Fleury has consistently shown he can still compete at a high level and defy age. This season too, Fleury is focused on enjoying the game and helping the Wild.
