Jackals are usually elusive creatures that rarely show their faces. Witness two of them teaming up and chasing off two leopards!
Nick Dale, a wildlife photographer, witnessed this incredible and rare scene of two jackals standing up to two leopards! Both of these animals are elusive, and it’s a special sight if you come across either of them.
Jackals are similar to dogs, and leopards are big cats, so a dog scaring off a cat seems natural. However, the jackals being so much smaller than the leopards makes this sighting unusual.
Despite their size difference, it’s not uncommon for jackals to harass leopards. They are very territorial animals and will often fight big cats for prey, frequently scavenging already-caught creatures.
This epic standoff could have happened for various reasons. The jackals were most likely protecting their pups from the leopards. Jackals will fiercely defend their offspring, with both parents working together to scare off predators. They create concealed dens to hide their young from the outside world.
