€80m Arsenal star suffers injury blow, could now miss North London derby

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will be sidelined for the Champions League group stage opener against PSV Eindhoven tomorrow.

The Brazilian star picked up a hamstring injury in the opening half against Everton on Sunday, and he was swiftly replaced by Leandro Trossard in the left wing position.

Speaking in today’s press conference, Arteta has revealed that Martinelli felt something in his hamstring and the club need to do further tests to find out the nature of the setback.

He told Arsenal.com: “He felt something in his hamstring and we need to do some further tests to assess if there is any big damage or not but he will be out for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure.”

ARSENAL COULD BE WITHOUT MARTINELLI FOR NORTH LONDON DERBY

Martinelli has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game against PSV at the Emirates Stadium, but he is also a serious doubt for the North London derby on Sunday afternoon.

His absence is a blow for the Gunners, considering his goal contributions over the past two years. Last season, he had 21 goal involvements in all competitions for the club.

The €80 million-rated star has added another two assists this term. Luckily for Arsenal, they have a perfect and readymade replacement in the squad in the form of Leandro Trossard.

Trossard was exceptional after his January arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion. He registered one goal and a stunning 10 assists in the back end of the previous season.

The 28-year-old has continued the good form with two crucial goals this campaign. He scored a dramatic late equaliser in the Community Shield before the Gunners won on penalties.

At the weekend, Trossard showed his class once again with a terrific first-time left-footed shot to beat Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. It proved to be the match winner.

Hence, Arsenal are well covered in the left-wing position. They could also utilise the services of Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson off the bench if Trossard fails to impress.
