El superestrella argentino Lionel Messi ha respondido oficialmente a la invitación especial de la FIFA para participar en el Mundial de Clubes junto con su equipo, Inter Miami, según informó el medio Goal.
La edición ampliada del Mundial de Clubes de la FIFA se celebrará en Estados Unidos el próximo verano y contará con la participación de 32 equipos. A diferencia de ediciones anteriores, este torneo se disputará cada cuatro años. El Seattle Sounders, campeón de la Liga de Campeones de la CONCACAF 2022, será el representante de la MLS. Sin embargo, como país anfitrión, Estados Unidos podrá inscribir a un equipo adicional por invitación, y se rumorea que Inter Miami podría ser el elegido.
Inter Miami es visto como un candidato natural, no solo por contar con Lionel Messi, ganador de ocho Balones de Oro, sino también por estar en plena lucha por el título de la MLS Cup 2024. Además de Messi, el equipo cuenta con figuras de renombre como Jordi Alba, Luis Suárez y Sergio Busquets.
El entrenador del Inter Miami, Tata Martino, ya ha comentado sobre la posible participación: “Sin duda, nos gustaría participar. ¿Quién no querría estar en el Mundial de Clubes? Estamos enfocados en los objetivos de este año, pero cómo y si llegamos, dependerá de los que toman las decisiones”.
Messi, por su parte, tiene un historial exitoso en este torneo, habiendo ganado el Mundial de Clubes en tres ocasiones: 2009, 2011 y 2015, cuando jugaba para el FC Barcelona. La última vez que alzó el trofeo fue en 2015.
Con Messi en la cancha, el Mundial de Clubes 2025 promete atraer a una audiencia global masiva.
